DM Reward Item System

Post#1 » Fri Jan 29, 2021 2:39 am

== Introduction ==

A DM Reward item is one of most powerful items a player can hope to obtain in RoT. There are DM reward weapons for each weapon type. There are also DM reward armors for all equipment slots except the chest and amulet slot. DM reward armors are further classed into 5 sub-types (melee, arcane, divine, nature, utility). Right now, DM reward weapons can be farmed in certain areas in the event server, while DM reward armors can only be obtained in DM events.

== How does it work ==

DM Reward items can be viewed as special random items. They generate their properties randomly, but the average quality will be significantly better than the normal random items. Unlike random items, DM items generate their properties when you equip and activate them instead of picking up. Because DM items may try to detect your build and generate most useful properties for you, this can enable a player to pick up DM items and then generate their properties later for a different toon.

== Which Sub-Type to Choose ==

Usually, only base class matters for the sub-type:

Melee: Fighter / Barb / Ranger / Swash / Thug
Arcane: Bard / Wizard / Sorc
Divine: Paladin / Cleric / FavoredSoul
Nature: Shaman / Druid
Utility: Warlock / Hexblade / Monk / Rogue / Other

Note that the classification is not absolute. In fact, almost all characters can use Utility sub-type DM items and you may find Melee sub-type items useful if you are a divine-powered melee. Choosing Arcane/Divine/Nature without corresponding base-class is also possible but not recommended. You may get less useful bonus feats as the result. DM weapons have no sub-type and can be picked up by any base-class.

== Spell Slots ==

Bonus spell slots appear in sets. The typical set contains one bonus spell slots from level 3 to level 9. For bard, one set contains one bonus spell slots from level 2 to level 4, two bonus spell slots for level 5, and two bonus spell slots for level 6. For paladin and ranger, the set contains one bonus spell slots from level 1 to level 4.

Melee can generate up to 3 sets of spell slots for rangers. Arcane / Divine / Nature DM items can generate up to 3 sets of spell slots for corresponding base classes. Specially, if you have MT levels, the Arcane / Divine / Nature DM items may try to generate up to 2 sets spell slots for the primary spell casting class and up to 2 sets for the secondary spell casting class. If you have any Bard Prc like CL/SS/Harper, the Arcane / Divine / Nature DM items may try to generate up to 2 sets for bard and up to 2 sets for the other spell casting class. DM Weapons can generate up to 2 sets of spell slots for the highest spell casting base class. Utility DM items can generate one set of spell slots for the highest spell casting base class.

However, the number of sets being generated are determined by rolling. It will require a lucky roll to get the maximum number of set. Also note that having the DM items to generate spell slots may not always be the best outcome. Because each property in the generation process consumes a power budget and if a DM weapon for example generated a set of spell slots, it will be less likely to generate an extra damage bonus property.

== Suggestion to New Players ==

One important reason for me to revise the DM reward item system is to help new players. The old system require players to have specific level split to get the best rolls, which are extremely unfriendly for new players. For the new system, this is no longer the case. For a new player with >20 levels, you just choose the right sub-type that fits your build and roll. The benefit of building a special toon to game the generation system is minimum now. Enjoy!
